West Carrollton Council Tables Rental Inspection Proposal
Following a meeting that drew dozens of opponents of its inspection proposal, West Carrollton City Council has agreed to take more time to consider the program. At a public hearing August 23, commenters included organizations representing property owners, (Greater Dayton Real Estate Investors Association, Greater Dayton Apartment Association and Ohio Apartment Association), the local public housing authority and the region’s fair housing office in criticizing the city’s proposal. Small property owners and tenants also objected to provisions of the program. Under terms of the proposed ordinance, rental property owners will be required to obtain a city license, pay a $30 per unit annual fee, and undergo mandatory property inspections under a city-devised schedule. Council is expected to take up further consideration of the proposal in late September.
