HOW CLEAN SHOULD A RENTAL BE?
By Jeffery Taylor, “Mr. Landlord”

I'm not sure if you think that is a trick question, but it is one that many landlords have to determine when hiring out individuals or companies to clean their rental homes prior to a new resident moving in. Here's how one landlord asked the question this week on our forum:

"If you hire a cleaning person to clean your recently vacated rental house (Class C's)...What level of clean do you expect for $12.00/hour or whatever you are paying them to clean your rental? The money is not the issue here...it is what 'degree of clean' do you expect to get for whatever money you are paying.

For example, do you expect your hired cleaning person to clean the inside of the stove and make it sparkle like it was brand new? Do you expect them to move the stove and fridge away from the wall and clean underneath?

Take the bathrooms that your previous tenants did not clean once in the last 3 years. Do you expect your cleaning person to make that bathroom look (and smell) brand new? Even if you do all of your own cleaning yourself, again what 'level of clean' do you want before you show that house again to a potential new tenant?"

That question generated one of the biggest discussions of the entire month with several landlords responding. To view the responses click here now.
